The first of three children born to Deborah Little and Christopher Scarlett, Austin Scarlett was raised in Eugene, Oregon.

Scarlett received a degree in fashion design from New York’s renowned Fashion Institute of Technology where he specialized in couture and eveningwear design. While attending school, Austin supported himself by designing for custom clients, and with various theatrical design projects ranging from film, Broadway, dance and opera, to projects like Britney Spears world tour and Victoria’s Secret fashion show. During this period, Scarlett also worked at the Museum at the Fashion Institute of Technology as a costume archivist.

In 2002, Scarlett relocated to the West Coast to gain experience in Hollywood costume design. After a year in Los Angeles, Scarlett returned to New York City where he would soon audition for a forthcoming television show, a fashion talent contest, where up and coming designers would compete through a series of different challenges.

The show soon became a hit for the Bravo Network, and Austin Scarlett instantly a viewer favorite, standing out among the other contestants for his elegant designs, personal charm, and unique style. Worldwide broadcasting of the show’s original season has made Austin an international design star and fashion personality recognized the world over.

Following Project Runway, Austin produced couture collections under his own name for fall 2005 and spring 2006. He has also appeared as a fashion designer and commentator on MTV, E!, Discovery Channel, Logo and NBC’s Today Show, and published in NY Daily News, Life and Style, Elle, US Weekly, and iVillage.
